China Expects SCO Heads of Government Meeting to Advance High-Quality Development and Regional Cooperation

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed strong confidence in the upcoming 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), where Premier Li Qiang is set to participate. Responding to a question from China Radio International (CRI), spokesperson Lin Jian highlighted that the SCO is entering a new phase of high-quality development following the successful SCO Tianjin Summit held earlier this year.

According to Lin Jian, leaders of SCO member states reached significant common understandings during the Tianjin Summit. These included commitments to upholding the Shanghai Spirit, promoting reforms within the organization, and strengthening solidarity and coordination among member states. Lin emphasized that the summit marked the beginning of a new stage characterized by greater dynamism, productivity, and unity across the SCO region.

A key highlight of the Tianjin Summit was President Xi Jinping’s introduction of the Global Governance Initiative (GGI). The proposal was welcomed and widely supported by participating countries and received positive recognition from the international community. The initiative aims to contribute to global governance reform and promote inclusive development, aligning closely with the goals of the SCO.

Lin Jian noted that Premier Li Qiang's participation in the upcoming meeting will focus on translating the Tianjin Summit outcomes into concrete action. Premier Li is expected to hold in-depth exchanges with leaders from all SCO member states on strengthening cooperation, enhancing solidarity, and deepening regional ties in economic, cultural, and strategic sectors.

China believes the meeting will help maintain the positive momentum generated at the Tianjin Summit. It is also expected to advance the implementation of the SCO’s 10-year development strategy, safeguard common interests of all member states, and contribute to global and regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

As the SCO continues to expand its influence and enhance regional cooperation, China sees this meeting as an important step forward. The outcomes are anticipated to reinforce the organization’s role in promoting practical cooperation, sustainable development, and a shared future among member nations.
