FADA July 2026 Vehicle Retail Data: Auto Sales Hit Record High as Every Segment Posts Best-Ever July

India's automobile retail market achieved a historic milestone in July 2026, with every major vehicle category recording its highest-ever July sales. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), total vehicle retail sales surged 25.89% year-on-year (YoY) to 25,91,138 units, making it the strongest July performance outside the Covid-distorted years. Despite the seasonal slowdown caused by monsoon conditions, overall registrations remained almost flat month-on-month (MoM), declining only 0.16%.

FADA Vice President Sai Giridhar said July 2026 has entered the record books as the first month in Indian auto retail history where all six vehicle segments—Two-Wheelers, Three-Wheelers, Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, Tractors and Wheeled Construction Equipment—posted their best-ever July sales. Dealers attributed this remarkable growth to improved affordability following GST 2.0, better retail financing, recovering rural demand, and favorable festival timing compared to the weak base of July 2025.

July 2026 Vehicle Retail Performance

Overall vehicle registrations reached 25,91,138 units, up 25.89% YoY.

Every Segment Creates a New July Record

Two-Wheeler sales climbed 28.25% YoY to 18.18 lakh units. Rural demand slightly outpaced urban markets on an annual basis, although heavy rainfall and flooding affected sequential rural sales. Dealers also reported record electric two-wheeler adoption, with EVs accounting for 11.24% of total 2W retail sales.

Commercial Vehicle sales increased 24.04% YoY to 99,666 units, nearly touching the one-lakh mark for the first time in July. Strong demand came from infrastructure projects, mining, cement transportation, logistics and improving finance availability.

Passenger Vehicle retail sales rose 19.13% YoY to a record 4,16,555 units. Rural PV sales expanded 24.72%, significantly ahead of urban growth of 15.76%. Dealers credited GST 2.0 affordability, attractive schemes and new model launches for supporting demand.

Three-Wheeler sales reached 1,33,778 units, growing 16.16% YoY with EV penetration climbing above 65%. Tractor sales jumped 28.10%, while Wheeled Construction Equipment posted the strongest growth of all categories at 46.07%, supported by continued infrastructure spending.

Electric Vehicle Sales Reach Historic High

Electric vehicle retail sales touched an all-time monthly record of 3,27,901 units during July.

Key EV highlights include:

  • Overall EV penetration increased to approximately 12.7%, up from 9.6% a year ago.
  • Two-Wheeler EV market share reached a record 11.24%.
  • Commercial Vehicle EV penetration rose to 3.57%.
  • Three-Wheeler EV penetration stood at an impressive 65.08%.

The data suggests that EV adoption continues to accelerate across multiple vehicle categories.

FY27 Sales Continue Strong Momentum

For the first four months of FY27 (April–July 2026), India's automobile retail industry recorded sales of 1,04,76,327 vehicles, representing an 18.27% YoY increase.
