PM Modi Announces “Sudarshan Chakra” Defence Mission from Red Fort

In a historic and unexpected announcement from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared the launch of a new and ambitious defence project — the creation of the “Sudarshan Chakra,” a weapon system aimed at making India’s security apparatus impenetrable.

Addressing the nation, PM Modi said that India will now develop its own Sudarshan Chakra, inspired by the legendary weapon of Lord Krishna, to ensure the country’s borders remain secure and capable of delivering precision strikes against adversaries. He outlined his vision to expand, strengthen, and modernise India’s national security shield over the next decade, targeting completion by 2035.

Inspiration from Mahabharata’s Sudarshan Chakra

Drawing from the epic Mahabharata, the Prime Minister recalled the incident where Lord Krishna used the Sudarshan Chakra to block sunlight, creating sudden darkness during the battle. This strategic move allowed Arjun to fulfil his oath of killing Jayadratha. PM Modi emphasised that such a combination of power and strategy is what India seeks to replicate in modern warfare.

A Step Towards Self-Reliant Defence

PM Modi highlighted India’s progress in indigenous defence manufacturing, noting how homegrown weapon systems played a decisive role in surprising Pakistan during recent confrontations. He underlined the importance of developing ultra-modern weaponry that adapts to evolving battlefield conditions, ensuring the country’s security in the face of emerging threats.

“The Sudarshan Chakra will not only shield against precision attacks but will also enable India to carry out precision strikes,” the Prime Minister asserted.

Boosting India’s Defence Exports

This announcement is seen as another leap towards India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) defence goals. With the rapid pace of indigenous weapons development, experts believe India is poised to strengthen its dominance in the global arms export market in the coming years.

In addition to the Sudarshan Chakra project, PM Modi also advocated for the indigenous development of jet engines for domestic fighter aircraft, signalling a comprehensive push towards homegrown defence technology.

The “Sudarshan Chakra Mission” represents a fusion of India’s ancient heritage and cutting-edge defence ambitions — a symbolic and strategic initiative that could redefine the nation’s military capabilities by 2035.
