The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has made hallmarking mandatory for 9-carat gold jewelry starting July 2025, aiming to enhance transparency and protect consumers from fraud. As gold prices surge, more people are opting for lower-carat options. The new regulation brings 9K gold—containing 37.5% pure gold—under the hallmarking system, alongside other grades like 24K, 23K, 22K, 18K, and 14K.
