Adani Energy Solutions Wins ₹2,800 Crore Transmission Project for Green Hydrogen in Gujarat

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), India’s largest private power transmission and distribution company, has secured a significant power transmission project in Gujarat. The project, valued at ₹2,800 crore, is designed to support the manufacturing of Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia in Mundra, Gujarat. This development is part of India’s broader initiative to transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

Following the announcement, AESL shares rose 3% to ₹841 on Friday, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s growth strategy. With this acquisition

Project Details

The project, officially titled the "Transmission System for Green Hydrogen/Ammonia Manufacturing Potential in Mundra, Gujarat," involves a series of critical infrastructure upgrades. AESL will enhance the existing Navinal (Mundra) electrical substation by adding two large 765/400kV transformers. Additionally, a 75 km-long 765kV double-circuit transmission line will be constructed to connect this substation to the Bhuj substation.

Upon completion, the project will add 150 circuit kilometers (cKM) of transmission lines and 3,000 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of transformation capacity to AESL’s growing transmission network. This expansion will strengthen the electricity supply to Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia production facilities, enabling large-scale sustainable energy generation.

Strategic Importance

This project plays a crucial role in India's clean energy transformation, aligning with the government's ambitious Green Hydrogen Mission. By enhancing power transmission infrastructure in the Mundra region, AESL is helping to establish a robust foundation for renewable energy-based industrial development.

The project was awarded through a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, ensuring a fair and transparent selection of the best-suited bidder. PFC Consulting Limited acted as the bid process coordinator. The project’s special purpose vehicle (SPV) was formally transferred to AESL on March 20, 2025, marking a key milestone in its execution.

AESL’s Growing Portfolio

This latest transmission project is the sixth major contract secured by AESL in the current fiscal year. As a result, the company’s total order book now stands at approximately ₹57,561 crore. AESL operates India’s largest private transmission network, spanning 25,928 cKM, with a total transformation capacity of 87,186 MVA.

In addition to power transmission, AESL is actively expanding into other energy sectors, including smart metering and electricity distribution. The company serves around 13 million consumers in metropolitan Mumbai and the Mundra Special Economic Zone (SEZ). With a strong focus on integrating green power into its distribution network, AESL is playing a key role in modernizing India’s energy infrastructure.
