China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to connecting with overseas Chinese communities through its annual “Embracing the Chinese New Year” special program, following a recent question raised by China News Service.
Responding to the query, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that 2026 marks the fourth consecutive year since 2023 that the Ministry and Chinese diplomatic missions worldwide have organized the special program. According to him, the initiative aims to convey the care and concern of the CPC Central Committee for overseas Chinese and to promote traditional culture through festive activities.
Lin Jian explained that the program focuses on organizing cultural events around the Spring Festival, helping overseas Chinese celebrate the traditional holiday while also serving as a bridge for cultural exchange between China and other countries. Over the past years, these activities have been warmly welcomed by Chinese communities abroad and local audiences alike.
He noted that during the Spring Festival period, the Chinese government places special importance on maintaining close emotional ties with Chinese people living overseas. As part of this year’s program, Chinese embassies and consulates around the world will continue to visit overseas Chinese communities, extend festive greetings, and organize various cultural and social events to mark the occasion.
The spokesperson added that diplomatic missions are prepared to invite more overseas Chinese and international friends to participate in the celebrations. Through these activities, China hopes to further strengthen people-to-people exchanges and enhance mutual understanding between China and the rest of the world.
Lin Jian emphasized that the core objective of the program is to ensure that overseas Chinese feel the warmth and support of their motherland and ancestral home during the festive season. By combining traditional celebrations with cultural outreach, the initiative seeks to deepen emotional bonds and promote shared cultural values.
Concluding his remarks, Lin Jian extended festive wishes to Chinese communities worldwide, expressing hope that they would enjoy a joyful and prosperous Year of the Horse. He said the Ministry looks forward to seeing the “Embracing the Chinese New Year” program continue to play a positive role in strengthening cultural ties and fostering friendship across borders.
