Russia reported one of the largest Ukrainian drone attacks on the Moscow Region in the past two years, with air defense systems intercepting a massive wave of unmanned aerial vehicles throughout the day. The attack targeted several locations across the Russian capital region, including energy infrastructure, residential areas, and commercial facilities.
According to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, Russian air defense forces shot down more than 190 Ukrainian drones since the beginning of the day. He stated that emergency services and military personnel were actively responding to the situation as debris from intercepted drones fell in multiple locations.
One of the most significant incidents involved the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district. Several drones reportedly reached the facility, causing damage. Authorities said specialists are currently dealing with the aftermath of the strike and assessing the extent of the impact on the refinery.
In Moscow, debris from a downed drone fell onto a shopping center, causing minor damage to the building. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.
In the nearby city of Lyubertsy, drone debris struck the roof of a shopping center, according to Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov. The impact triggered a fire, and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene. Authorities are continuing to verify information regarding any possible casualties.
Additional damage was reported in Lyubertsy, where a fitness center building and a facility located within an industrial zone were affected by drone debris.
Another drone strike occurred in Zhukovsky, southeast of Moscow, where an apartment building was hit. Officials reported that two balcony slabs were damaged as a result of the impact. No major injuries have been reported from the incident.
In the village of Stepanovo near Elektrostal, debris from a downed drone damaged the roof of a private residence. Governor Vorobyov stated that a woman suffered a minor shoulder injury and received medical assistance.
The widespread drone attack also disrupted air traffic across the Moscow Region. Russia's Transport Ministry announced temporary flight restrictions at four major airports: Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky. The airports temporarily suspended arrivals and departures as authorities implemented safety measures.
Officials said the restrictions were introduced to ensure the safety of civilian aviation operations while air defense systems continued responding to the drone threat.
The latest attack highlights the continuing escalation of long-range drone warfare between Russia and Ukraine. As both sides increasingly target strategic infrastructure and military-related facilities deep behind front lines, drone strikes have become a major feature of the conflict. Russian authorities are continuing damage assessments while emergency crews remain deployed across affected areas in the Moscow Region.
