Mumbai, September 11, 2025: The Maharashtra government has taken a major step toward strengthening its digital infrastructure push by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 30,000 crore with Lodha Developers Ltd. The agreement paves the way for the development of a Green Integrated Data Centre Park at Palava in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
This move comes a year after the state government approved the Green Integrated Data Centre Parks policy in October 2024, designed to create sustainable and world-class data centre hubs in the region. The policy emphasizes that data centres, which are traditionally heavy consumers of electricity, will be powered by green and alternative energy sources to ensure long-term sustainability.
Back in 2019, the Maharashtra government had declared Integrated Data Centres as a ‘Thrust Area’ for industrial growth in the state, recognizing the exponential rise in demand driven by cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital services. With the growing reliance on digital infrastructure, this initiative is expected to place Maharashtra firmly on the global map for sustainable data centre development.
Under the new programme, three such Green Integrated Data Centre Parks will be established in the MMR region. The Palava project, in partnership with Lodha Developers, is the first major development under this framework. The MoU outlines that the planned investment of Rs 30,000 crore will generate around 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. The data centre park will have a planned capacity of 2 gigawatts, making it one of the largest in the country, and is designed to host multiple leading international and domestic players.
Speaking on the development, Abhishek Lodha, MD & CEO of Lodha Developers Ltd., said, “We are excited to partner with the Government of Maharashtra in this unique initiative. The Green Integrated Data Centre Parks policy will not only create employment opportunities, boost Maharashtra’s and India’s economy, but will also operate on clean and green energy sources benefiting generations. We at Lodha have taken giant leaps towards sustainability and are aiming for net zero across all our operations in the coming years. We are committed to the success of the Green Integrated Data Centre Park and look forward to many such partnerships with the government, all of which enable India to become a global leader by 2047.”
Lodha Developers, India’s leading luxury real estate developer, brings decades of experience in delivering high-quality infrastructure. The company has already delivered approximately 100 million square feet of real estate and is currently developing over 110 million square feet across residential, commercial, and digital infrastructure projects. Its vision of ‘Building a Better Life’ extends across geographies, markets, and consumer segments, creating integrated ecosystems with robust infrastructure, open spaces, and modern amenities.
In recent years, Lodha has also scaled up its presence in the digital infrastructure space and has made a mark within a short span of time. Committed to becoming a net-zero carbon emissions company by 2050, Lodha is aligning its projects with India’s low-carbon transition goals while contributing positively to both the environment and society.
The upcoming Green Integrated Data Centre Park at Palava is not just an infrastructure investment but a strategic step toward sustainable digital growth. With the combined support of the Maharashtra government and leading private developers, these projects are expected to catalyze India’s emergence as a global leader in green digital infrastructure by 2047.
