Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-Backed Company Secures Orders Worth INR 360 Crores from GAIL and IOCL

March 13, 2025: VA Tech WABAG, a leading Indian multinational water technology company backed by investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala with an 8% stake, has further strengthened its position in the industrial water treatment sector. The company has secured a significant order worth approximately INR 340 crores for the design, construction, and operation of a 450 cum/hr ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis-based effluent recycle plant with an evaporator-based zero liquid discharge (ZLD) system. The project also includes the development of a new wastewater treatment plant and the augmentation of an existing one at GAIL’s integrated petrochemical complex in Pata, Uttar Pradesh.

The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phase of this order is expected to be completed over 24 months, followed by six months of operation and maintenance. Projects and Development India Limited (PDIL) has been designated as the engineer-in-charge by GAIL. The recovered water from this facility will be used as cooling tower makeup water, enhancing sustainable industrial water use.

Additionally, WABAG has secured a repeat operation and maintenance contract from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) worth approximately INR 20 crores. This contract is for the continued operation and maintenance of the tertiary treatment reverse osmosis (TTRO) plant at IOCL’s Panipat Refinery in Haryana for another three years. WABAG has been responsible for the plant’s operation and maintenance since its commissioning in 2006.

The TTRO plant, designed, constructed, and commissioned by WABAG nearly two decades ago, holds the distinction of being India’s first industrial water recycling facility in the oil and gas sector. These new orders reaffirm WABAG’s leadership in advanced water treatment solutions and highlight its commitment to sustainable water management in the industrial sector.
