Tata Motors Registers Total Sales of 79,344 Units in February 2025;EV sales down 23% for Second Month

Tata Motors, a leading player in the Indian automotive industry, recorded total sales of 79,344 units in February 2025, reflecting a YoY decline of 8% compared to 86,406 units sold in February 2024. The decline was primarily driven by a dip in both Commercial Vehicle (CV) and Passenger Vehicle (PV) sales.

Domestic Sales Performance

Tata Motors' domestic sales stood at 77,232 units in February 2025, marking a 9% decline YoY from 84,834 units in February 2024.

Commercial Vehicle Sales Performance

Tata Motors' total CV sales (domestic + international) in February 2025 were 32,533 units, a 7% YoY decline from 35,085 units in February 2024.

Breakdown of Commercial Vehicle Sales:

HCV Trucks: 9,892 units (-2% YoY)

ILMCV Trucks: 5,652 units (+11% YoY)

Passenger Carriers: 4,355 units (-7% YoY)

SCV Cargo & Pickup: 10,898 units (-20% YoY)

CV Domestic: 30,797 units (-8% YoY)

CV IB (International Business): 1,736 units (+14% YoY)

Domestic sales of Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (MH&ICV) stood at 15,940 units, compared to 16,227 units in February 2024. Meanwhile, total sales for MH&ICV Domestic & International Business, including trucks and buses, reached 16,693 units, almost stable from 16,663 units in February 2024.

Passenger Vehicle Sales Performance

Tata Motors' total PV sales (domestic + EV + international) for February 2025 were 46,811 units, reflecting a 9% YoY decline from 51,321 units in February 2024.

Breakdown of Passenger Vehicle Sales:

Total PV Domestic (Including EVs): 46,435 units (-9% YoY)

PV IB (International Business): 376 units (+596% YoY)

Total PV (Includes EV & IB): 46,811 units (-9% YoY)

EV (IB + Domestic): 5,343 units (-23% YoY)

Despite the overall decline, international business (PV IB) saw a significant 596% increase, though on a smaller base. However, EV sales (domestic + international) saw a 23% decline, indicating a slowdown in the demand for electric vehicles.

Tata Motors' sales numbers for February 2025 indicate a challenging market environment, with both commercial and passenger vehicle segments experiencing declines. The slowdown in EV sales is particularly notable, despite the growing push towards electrification in the Indian market. However, the strong growth in international PV sales offers a positive outlook for the company's global expansion.

Tata Motors will likely focus on product innovation, cost optimization, and expanding its EV lineup to regain momentum in the coming months
