Russian President Vladimir Putin has commented on the recent announcement that Donald Trump did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize. In his remarks, Putin refrained from expressing a clear opinion on whether Trump deserved the prestigious award, but he emphasized that the U.S. president has made sincere efforts to address some of the world’s most complex conflicts.
“Whether or not the incumbent President of the United States deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, I do not know,” Putin said. “But he has genuinely done much to resolve complex crises that have persisted for years, if not decades.”
Putin particularly highlighted Trump’s attempts to bring stability to Ukraine. He noted that while not all of Trump’s efforts were successful, his commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine crisis was evident.
“I have said this before – I know for certain: regarding the crisis in Ukraine, he sincerely strives for a resolution. Some things have worked out, others have not. Perhaps much more can still be achieved based on the agreements and discussions in Anchorage,” Putin added.
The Russian leader also referred to Trump’s broader diplomatic initiatives, calling his efforts to resolve international disputes noteworthy. “He is certainly making an effort, certainly working on these issues – issues of achieving peace and resolving complex international situations,” Putin said.
Putin pointed to the Middle East as one of the most significant examples of Trump’s peace efforts. He suggested that if Trump’s initiatives and proposals in the region were fully realized, they would mark a turning point in modern history.
“The most striking example is the situation in the Middle East. If everything Donald has sought to accomplish, everything he has spoken about and attempted to achieve, is brought to fruition – it would be a historic event, truly a historic event,” Putin concluded.
While the Nobel Committee chose not to award Donald Trump this year, Putin’s remarks indicate that he views Trump as a leader who has made genuine attempts to bring about peace in some of the world’s most unstable regions.
