China and Serbia Strengthen Strategic Partnership During President Vučić’s Beijing Visit

Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in Beijing for a high-profile state visit that both countries described as historically significant for the future of China-Serbia relations.

The visit comes as China and Serbia mark the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership, with both sides pledging to further strengthen political trust, economic cooperation, and coordination on global affairs.

According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, President Xi Jinping hosted an official welcome ceremony and banquet for President Vučić before the two leaders held extensive talks covering bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues.

During the meetings, the two presidents witnessed the signing of 23 cooperation documents and announced that 10 cooperation agreements had been reached. China and Serbia also issued two joint statements — one focused on continuously building a China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era, and another on advancing the implementation of China’s four major global initiatives.

In a major symbolic gesture, President Xi awarded President Vučić the Friendship Medal, recognizing his long-term commitment to strengthening China-Serbia friendship and promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang and CPPCC Chairman Wang Huning also separately met with President Vučić during the visit.

China and Serbia emphasized that they will continue supporting each other on core national interests while deepening cooperation across multiple sectors, including the economy, science and technology, education, tourism, and culture.

Both leaders agreed to seek greater alignment between China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Serbia’s “Serbia 2030” development strategy. The two sides said this coordination would help expand practical cooperation and further modernize bilateral relations.

The discussions also highlighted growing geopolitical coordination between Beijing and Belgrade. The two presidents stated that amid increasing global instability and “century-defining changes,” China and Serbia should strengthen strategic communication, defend multilateralism, oppose hegemonism and power politics, and support international fairness and justice.

China and Serbia further pledged to jointly advance the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative. Beijing says these frameworks are designed to address global development challenges, international security concerns, civilizational exchanges, and reforms in global governance systems.

President Vučić’s trip also includes visits to Shanghai and other Chinese cities, underscoring the broad scope of cooperation between the two nations.

Chinese officials described the visit as featuring a “full itinerary and fruitful outcomes,” reflecting the high level of political mutual trust and strategic coordination between Beijing and Belgrade. China believes the visit will inject fresh momentum into bilateral cooperation and strengthen efforts to build a China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era.
