Here’s What Chinese Officials Said on India-China Direct Flights Resumption

India’s Ministry of External Affairs recently announced that direct flights between India and China will resume before the end of October, marking a major step toward restoring connectivity between the two nations after a long suspension.

Responding to the announcement, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun confirmed that China and India will restart direct flights before the end of October this year. Guo said this development reflects how both sides are faithfully acting on the important common understandings reached between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting in Tianjin on August 31.

According to Guo, the decision to resume flights is an active move that facilitates friendly exchanges between the people of the two nations, representing a combined population of more than 2.8 billion. He added that this initiative demonstrates both countries’ sincerity in improving ties and boosting people-to-people connectivity.

Guo Jiakun further noted that China is ready to work with India to handle bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective. He emphasized that both nations should be good neighbors and partners that help each other succeed.

He described the renewed cooperation as a “cooperative pas de deux of the dragon and the elephant,” symbolizing harmony and collaboration between Asia’s two major powers. Guo highlighted that such partnership would bring tangible benefits to both populations and contribute to peace and prosperity in Asia and beyond.

The resumption of direct air links is being viewed as a positive sign that Beijing and New Delhi are looking to rebuild mutual trust and deepen engagement, setting the stage for further cooperation in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
