In a significant and emotional statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed deep gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his unwavering support for him personally, for the State of Israel, and for the Jewish people. The statement, originally posted by Netanyahu, comes in the wake of heightened tensions in the region and amidst Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial in Israel.
Netanyahu wrote:
“Thank you, President Trump, for your moving support of me and your tremendous support for Israel and the Jewish people. We will continue to work together to defeat our common enemies, free our hostages, and rapidly expand the circle of peace.”
The message follows a powerful post by President Trump on his Truth Social platform, where he praised Netanyahu's leadership and resilience in the face of Iran’s threats, calling him one of the greatest warriors in Israeli history.
President Trump stated:
“Bibi and I have just gone through hell together, in a battle against a longtime, stubborn and brilliant enemy of Israel – Iran – and Bibi was at his best: sharp, strong, and full of love for the incredible Holy Land. Anyone else would have suffered losses, embarrassment, and chaos!
Bibi Netanyahu was a fighter – perhaps the greatest fighter in the history of Israel – and the result was something no one believed would happen: the complete elimination of one of the world’s most powerful nuclear threats, which was planned to happen – very soon!”
Trump emphasized that they were literally fighting for the survival of Israel, and he couldn’t think of anyone in Israeli history who had fought harder or more skillfully than Netanyahu.
However, President Trump expressed shock and dismay upon learning that Netanyahu is due in court again on Monday, continuing a legal process that has dragged on since May 2020. This marks the first time in Israeli history that a sitting prime minister is facing trial. Trump referred to the ongoing trial as a “horror show,” criticizing it harshly and claiming that it is politically motivated.
He added:
“This is a political case, about cigars, a Bugs Bunny doll, and a series of unfair accusations, all intended to harm him.
Such a witch hunt, against a man who has given so much, is simply inconceivable to me.
Bibi deserves far more – and Israel deserves better.”
Concluding his message, President Trump called for the immediate cancellation of the trial or, alternatively, a full pardon for Netanyahu. He described Netanyahu as a national hero who has done so much for his country.
This exchange between Netanyahu and Trump comes at a critical moment, as Israel continues to deal with security threats from Iran and navigates complex political challenges at home. The strong public show of support from the former U.S. president could further rally Netanyahu's base and strengthen his position both politically and diplomatically.
