Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu Discuss Gaza Crisis and Middle East Stability

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where both leaders discussed the current developments in the Middle East, especially the escalating situation in Gaza. The discussion came at a crucial time as Israel continues its military operations in Gaza, which have resulted in heavy civilian casualties.

According to the official statement from the Kremlin, the conversation focused primarily on the plan proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden to normalise the situation in Gaza. President Putin reiterated Russia’s firm stance in favour of a comprehensive resolution to the Palestine issue, based on international law and the long-standing principles that guide global diplomacy on the matter.

The two leaders also exchanged views on several other key regional issues. Both expressed an interest in finding peaceful solutions to ongoing challenges, including Iran’s nuclear programme and the continued instability in Syria. The emphasis, according to reports, was on dialogue and negotiation as the means to restore balance and peace in the region.

As the conversation took place on the eve of Vladimir Putin’s birthday, Prime Minister Netanyahu extended his greetings and best wishes to the Russian President. In return, President Putin offered warm wishes to Netanyahu and the people of Israel on the occasion of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

The timing of this phone call has drawn international attention. It comes as Israel continues its aggressive strikes in Gaza, resulting in mounting global criticism over civilian deaths. Netanyahu has maintained a hardline stance, recently reiterating his position during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. During that meeting, he declared that “terrorists will be eliminated from all parts of the world,” further underscoring Israel’s uncompromising approach to its military campaign.

This conversation between Putin and Netanyahu highlights the growing international engagement in the Middle East crisis. With Russia, the United States, and Israel now all directly involved in discussions about Gaza’s future, the geopolitical landscape of the region could soon witness significant changes.
