Key Global and Domestic Market Cues to Watch This Week

As the last week of August 2025 begins, global and domestic markets are bracing for several key events and data releases that are expected to shape investor sentiment and market direction. From tariff deadlines and GDP releases to global earnings reports and consumer confidence data, traders and investors will have multiple cues to track closely.

In India, August 27 marks an important day as Trump’s 50 percent tariff deadline comes into effect. However, domestic markets will remain closed on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. Another key factor on this date will be the MSCI rejig, which is expected to come into effect and could drive significant movement in select stocks.

On August 28, Indian markets will react to the impact of Trump’s secondary tariff measures along with data points such as industrial production. The expiry of the monthly Nifty futures and options contracts will also add to market volatility. The MSCI rejig impact will continue to be in focus.

August 29 will be crucial for India as key macroeconomic indicators will be released. These include the second quarter GDP data, fiscal deficit numbers, and forex reserves data. These figures will provide insight into the broader economic outlook and government finances.

In the United States, several important events are lined up. On August 26, the Conference Board will release its consumer confidence index, a key gauge of household sentiment. August 28 will see the release of second quarter GDP data along with initial jobless claims, both critical indicators of economic health. On August 29, the US will release the PCE price index along with personal income and spending data. Additionally, the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment survey and wholesale inventories data will be published. Another significant development is the end of the US “de minimis” tariff exemption on August 29, which previously allowed low-value imports to enter duty-free.

Global earnings will also play an important role in shaping sentiment. On August 27, market participants will watch results from tech giants NVIDIA and CrowdStrike. Later in the week on August 29, earnings from Alibaba, BYD, and Bank of China will be closely monitored, providing insights into the performance of key Asian corporates.

In the Eurozone, August 28 will see the release of consumer confidence data along with the European Central Bank’s account of its July rate decision. On August 29, the ECB will release its one-year and three-year inflation expectations, offering further clarity on monetary policy direction.

China will release its industrial profits data on August 27, which will be watched for signs of recovery or weakness in the world’s second-largest economy. Meanwhile, in the UK, markets will remain closed on August 25.

With multiple global and domestic factors converging, this week promises heightened market volatility and sharp sectoral moves. Traders, investors, and policymakers alike will be keeping a close watch on these developments to gauge the short-term and medium-term outlook for the markets.
