DRI Seizes 14.2 kg Smuggled Gold Worth Rs. 12.56 Crore in Bengaluru
In a major operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully intercepted a large quantity of smuggled gold at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. A 33-year-old Indian woman, who arrived from Dubai via an Emirates flight on March 3, 2025, was caught with 14.2 kg of foreign-origin gold ingeniously concealed on her person. The smuggled gold, valued at Rs. 12.56 crore, was seized under the Customs Act, 1962.
Following the interception, DRI officials conducted a search at the suspect's residence on Lavelle Road, Bengaluru, where she lived with her husband. The search operation led to the recovery of gold jewelry worth Rs. 2.06 crore and Indian currency amounting to Rs. 2.67 crore. In total, assets worth Rs. 17.29 crore were seized in connection with this case.
The woman has been arrested under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act and remanded to judicial custody. This seizure marks a significant blow to organized gold smuggling networks, as it is one of the largest gold seizures at Bengaluru International Airport in recent times.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover further links to gold smuggling syndicates operating in the region.
