In a significant move to boost India's logistics and transportation infrastructure, the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a cutting-edge Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal.
Strategic Location and Connectivity
The 150-acre MMLP will be strategically located to enhance connectivity and streamline cargo movement. Key highlights of the project include:
- A direct 650-meter access road linking it to NH7, with proximity to the NH7-NH2 junction, just 1.5 km away.
- Seamless integration with the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor through a 5.1 km railway line connecting Jeonathpur Station and National Waterway-1.
- Located 30 km from Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport, ensuring multimodal transport efficiency.
Economic and Trade Benefits
This ambitious project is expected to bring significant investment and job creation opportunities, further strengthening India's logistics sector. By enhancing trade efficiency and reducing transportation costs, the MMLP will play a vital role in bolstering economic growth.
India's Vision for a Stronger Logistics Sector
The MoU underscores India’s commitment to modernizing its logistics infrastructure, aligning with the government’s broader vision of improving supply chain efficiency and reinforcing the nation’s status as a global economic powerhouse. With improved connectivity and streamlined freight movement, the Varanasi MMLP is set to become a key hub in India's logistics network.
