Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reaffirmed that Ukraine will remain an independent state as the country marks the 35th anniversary of the restoration of its independence.
In his Independence Day address, Zelensky said Ukrainians had preserved their country’s independence for 35 years and would continue to defend it. He stressed that there was “no doubt” Ukraine would remain independent in the future.
Zelensky said Ukrainians would not become tools in political disputes between powerful leaders or capitals. He also declared that the Ukrainian people would not give up their aspirations for freedom and the right to determine their own future.

The president also recognized several prominent Ukrainians, including shooting champion Elena Kostevych, Bishop Vitaliy Kryvytsky, Superhumans director Olga Rudneva, artist Anatoly Kryvolap and singer Zlata Ognevich.
Zelensky thanked everyone contributing to Ukraine’s independence and strengthening the country. He said their efforts were helping Ukraine remain free and ensuring that the country’s name continued to be spoken with pride.
He also called on Ukrainians to remember those who lost their lives defending the country, its blue-and-yellow flag and its independence.
“Ukraine will always be independent,” Zelensky said, emphasizing his message that the country would continue fighting to preserve its sovereignty and freedom.
