Here Is How Global Media Reacted to Pakistan Ceasefire Violation

Late last evening, India’s Foreign Secretary addressed the media announcing that both India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire. However, within just three hours of this development, reports started emerging of ceasefire violations in certain areas. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared this update, even posting a video from Srinagar where explosions could be heard, indicating the fragile nature of the ceasefire.

At around 10:35 PM, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri once again faced the media to confirm that violations had indeed taken place at certain locations. He also stated that the Indian Army had been instructed to take necessary action in response. Soon after, the Army officially confirmed incidents of cross-border firing near the Nagrota missile base in Jammu and Kashmir, reporting casualties among civilians.

As this unfolded, attention quickly turned to how international media was covering the ceasefire and its subsequent violations. Prominent global news outlets responded with detailed reports.

New York Times: “Signs Ceasefire Was Not Holding”

The New York Times highlighted the instability that followed the ceasefire declaration, stating, "As night set, there were signs that the ceasefire was not holding." It reported that cross-border firing had resumed in some areas on the Indian side, quoting Foreign Secretary Misri and noting that even regions such as Punjab were experiencing heightened tensions.

The Guardian: Celebrations Cut Short by Renewed Violence

The Guardian, a major British media outlet, also covered the event extensively. Their report acknowledged a temporary sense of relief following the ceasefire announcement, which even prompted a social media post from U.S. President Donald Trump. The mood, however, quickly shifted when renewed firing shattered the short-lived peace. Interviews with residents in border areas revealed that people had begun celebrating the return to peace, only to be forced back into shelters as firing resumed.

BBC: “Worst Tensions in Two Decades”

The BBC echoed similar sentiments, citing Vikram Misri and confirming repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement. The network reported that fighting between India and Pakistan had escalated to one of the most intense levels seen in the past two decades. BBC correspondents on the ground also noted sounds of explosions in multiple parts of India, attributing them to Pakistani shelling.

Reuters Confirms Ground Reports from Srinagar

Reuters, the global news agency, confirmed that explosions were heard in areas like Srinagar, based on information from ground reporters. It corroborated reports from other agencies that Pakistan had violated the ceasefire agreement.

China’s Global Times: Beijing Expresses Concern

China's Global Times reported a statement from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, expressing deep concern over the tensions between the neighboring nations. China urged both countries to act with wisdom and restraint. The report also mentioned that India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had spoken to his Chinese counterpart, receiving assurances of China’s support for peace and de-escalation.

Collectively, the global media consensus points towards confirmation that the ceasefire was violated from the Pakistani side. In his briefing, the Indian Foreign Secretary emphasized that the Army had been ordered to respond appropriately to any breaches.

All eyes are now on the next scheduled press briefing, where the Foreign Secretary and Army officials are expected to provide detailed information on the overnight developments and cross-border firing incidents. Meanwhile, in Amritsar, a red alert has been issued. The local administration has urged residents to remain indoors, avoid balconies, and keep windows closed.
